Freckles are hyperpigmented macules that are commonly seen on lighter skin people. Freckles are a direct result of increase pigment production within the skin that is commonly triggered by sun exposure. Lentigo is a flat dark patch that can be similar in appearance as freckles but these lesions are directly related to sun exposure. Often called “liver spots”, lentigines are more commonly seen in the elderly population. Also, these lesions do not change color when exposed to the sun unlike freckles. This is due to an increase presence of the melena producing cells, melanocytes. Nevus, or common moles, is a raised circumscribed lesion that can range in size, shape, and appearance. They typically start off as macules and classified as benign
