Frequency
The frequency of hydration is how much water the athlete has, it is import to frequently drink fluids so that the body doesn’t suffer from dehydration, however if the athlete drinks too much then it can start to cause problems, the minerals may be washed out of the body and urine will become too frequent. An example of an athlete that frequently needs to drink water could be Mo Farah, this is because his weekly workout plan consists of a lot of running, and he will need to drink a lot more fluids to sustain the liquids he lost through sweat.
Intensity

It is important to be well hydrated otherwise the muscles will start to get tired a lot easier and the body will start to shut down. However if the body is over hydrated then it will struggle and will cause an increase in urine.
Specificity
This is when an athlete trains a specific muscle or skill that needs to be improved. If the body is hydrated well then it will be able to perform these events in order to improve however if the body is dehydrated it is going to be weaker and make it harder to perform. An example of an athlete is this occasion could be a basketball player such Yao Ming, basketball players may need to improve specific things in there training such as slam dunks.
Progression
The body can slowly adapt to hydration needs, if the fluids are taken at the right time during sports then the body will manage to preserve them and use them more wisely, this would be good for sports such as boxing, David Haye for example, where there are rounds that get more intense and as they go on the body is going to need more fluids. It is important not to over load the body in water however it will lose fluids
