As a resident of a hurricane prone area, we prepare by stocking up on supplies like food, water, toiletries, and etc. long before the hurricane season. Then as the storm approaches we board up the windows and make sure all loose items around the yard are out of the way. We evacuate if the word is given to evacuate. On top of that being in the Coast Guard we also have to be ready to evacuate our boats and prepare the unit for foul weather. Normally we convoy our boats up to Tampa or other times we get deployed to the areas that have been affected by the storm to help with recovery.
