Humor, Fairness, Courage, And Courage

My greatest strengths are my appreciation for Beauty & Excellence, Humor, Fairness, Humility, and Teamwork. My top three strengths are my appreciation for beauty and excellence, humor, and courage, I personally think that these three are the basic building blocks to being myself. First off my appreciation for beauty and excellence/curiosity has always been there, other cultures have amazed me, I’ve learned what I like and what I don’t like and I’ve learned that other people could have different beliefs than mine. Traveling the world is something I want to do, and with the help of the technology of this generation I know what wonders I want to see and whom I want to share those moments with. And all the places I have seen I would go back …show more content…
As far as grade went I was not an above average student. Marine biology was my absolute favorite subject and nothing was really offered for it here in New Mexico, I mainly learned about ocean life in first grade. My teacher named Ms. Gentry did not really focus on anything besides that, and half way through the school year she was fired for obvious reasons, it was my favorite part of school throughout my entire school life. I really appreciate the fact that I can laugh about things, life is all about learning from your mistakes and if you cannot laugh at yourself if you get embarrassed or do something wrong, I don’t think that you will move forward in a healthy manner; at least for me anyway. So being able to joke around when times get hard or when things belittle you is a great coping mechanism. Courage is something I think everybody has, people are always striving forward. It’s a wonderful way to live, kind of on the edge. I really like pushing myself to see how far I can get, even though it is a terrifying process at times. Literally what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, because you’ve already gone through so much, and maybe even done the same thing before, it just makes life easier when you have to do the easy …show more content…
Seeing beauty is kind of an everyday thing, I’m pretty sure I was a hippie in a previous life, and this life is just a less intense version of it. But I guess when I started really appreciating nature was my first vacation, my best friend’s family took me with them to san Antonio. I thought it was such a pretty place, they took me to sea-world, which at the time there wasn’t any protest against them keeping the orcas. So it was really amazing, I got to see the city, go on the road, and be around marine life. My best friend’s dad was also from Iran, so he cooked tons of Mediterranean meals and they were delicious. My favorite kind of food to this

Positive Psych Extra Credit #1 - Fairness, equity, and justice – I was surprised that my top strength came out to be, I thought it would be Judgment, critical thinking, and open-mindedness. I am a fair person and treat others like how I would want to be treated, but even more than that people are people, with feelings and we are all different and complex. There’s not a right wat to act, the way in which you live is influence by your actions and the way you think, what is right and wrong. Therefore, I try to not make judgement of other people on how they dress and act. I asked my older sister if this trait best characterizes me and she said yes.…

The present study investigated the possible relationship between self-defeating humor and the use of humor as a coping strategy. It also predicts that the use of humor as a coping strategy is negatively correlated with self-defeating humor Meaning, for example, if an individual has a lower self-defeating humor score, the lower the usage of humor as a coping strategy. However, the results of the present study do not support the idea of a negative correlation. Instead, there is a weak, but significant positive correlation between self-defeating humor and the use of humor as a coping strategy, rather than the negative correlation between the two measures.…

After reading a few chapters of Strengths Quest, I was instructed to participate in the Strengths Finder assessment (Anderson, Clifton, & Schreiner, 2006). This 30 minute assessment was an interesting tool that pointed out my greatest strengths. It also provided a detailed description of what having those strengths mean and examples of how they are prominent in a person 's life. After taking the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five dominant strengths are empathy, harmony, consistency, relator, and restorative.…

    Essay On Humorists

    • 430 Words

Humorists Everyone has a different sense of humor, whether it’s sarcastic or even stupid. Some, like Alain de Botton, the author of the 2004 novel Status Anxiety, believe that humorists play a vital role in society; however, that role cannot be considered vital in society today. While some believe that humorists are vital because they are able to make insulting (and sometimes inappropriate) insinuations about others, having the ability to get away with such an atrocity is not necessarily a good idea. For example, even though the show Seinfeld is used to poke fun at some of the things people say, do or act like, they may take offense to some of the content on the show; a Cigar Store Indian, a ‘Sidler’, even a holiday that one of the characters…

Initially, courage can be found in my life when I needed bravery to face my fear of heights. Accomplishing this was always a very hard goal in my life, but I was determined to face it when I went on a vacation to Disney World. I was always too afraid to overcome the fear but, when I went on my first and foremost, colossal rollercoaster, the Hulk, I realized that roller coasters are purely amusing. But, with noticing that roller coasters are amazingly…

Nelson Mandela once said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” Courage is to have strength while in pain or grief, but it can also be doing an act of bravery. Being courageous can be very difficult, but is the best thing to be. People who show courage always come out better after they do. These people show courage because they all overcame hard times and made a better life for themselves.…

Does comedy help promote social change? Ramon Lopez, Iain Ellis and the documentary Tickling Giants demonstrate how comedy has had some social change but has not had a positive impact on society nor promoted great social change. Ellis discusses about how The Talk Show brought about a change in society but not a positive change in which the comedian expected since the nation returned to where they started or even worse. While Lopez discuss how the comedian Jon Stewart does not promote positive social change but rather degrading change in society. I agree that comedy can have a social effect but disagree that comedians can bring about a positive change.…

The article that I chose for this week’s writing assignment is a study that seeks to understand how humor styles and well-being are related while also tying in the importance of social relationships and gender. Research has shown that humor in individuals may be linked to a greater resistance to stress and depression as well as better mood and self-esteem. “Studies have also found that humor may be associated with greater physical well-being, including better immune functioning and pain tolerance” (Dyck & Holtzman, 2013). Not all humor has these benefits however, which can be explained by variations in humor styles among individuals. This study seeks to uncover the styles of humor that are most advantageous, the passageways through which humor…
