It is very important to study about human development theories in order to apply the theories in our daily life and especially in teaching. The purpose of this assignment is to describe the four major developmental theories and discuss how to practically apply these theories in teaching through various activities. The four major theories that will be discussed in the assignment are Psychosexual Theory by Sigmund Freud, Psychosocial Theory by Erik Erikson, Cognitive Theory of Jean Piaget and Moral Development Theory of Lawrence Kohlberg. Inferiority – 6 to 11 years) In his theory, Erikson states that the psychosocial developmental stages of an individual experiences a crisis. People who usually resolve the crisis in each stage have positive thoughts and they are able to develop trust for others. They usually see the best in everything, lead a very happy life and have positive attitudes towards every aspect of life. It does not mean that these people never experience negative thoughts throughout their lives. In this theory, I will be focusing on Industry vs. Inferiority as this is the stage I deal with in my teaching. Industry vs. Inferiority is the most important stage of schooling. This is the stage where the children are exposed to the outside world of their protective homes and learn to interact with others. Teachers should be good examples to teach ethical and moral values to the children. We as teachers not only should explain the righteous ways but also show from our actions. For example, we can advise the children a lot on being punctual to school but if we as teachers come late to school they would not get the correct message. Likewise we can develop morality in their surroundings by always making them follow certain values in the class. Make them do a good deed every day and give something like stars or happy faces to value it. We can teach them how to respect each other and speak politely to their friends as well in the class.
