Hudson Valley Ice Age

The last ice age happened 2 million years ago until 10,000 years ago. At this point, North America is at its normal position, north of the equator. The glacier that covered the Ice Age was the Laurentide Ice Sheet. Before the Ice Age, there was a valley called the Hudson Valley. During the Ice Age a glacier scraped through the rock, which gouged out 240 meters of rock. The sediments got removed from their previous location and deposited in a huge pile, a terminal moraine in Long Island. The sediments acted as a dam when the glacier melted, which trapped glacial melt water, which formed the Glacial Lake of Albany. The Connecticut River Valley and the Hudson River Valley got carved when the glaciers passed through their scraping rock. Both valley’s also got carved when the glaciers retreated and melted, and passed through the valley’s. The Hudson River formed when 10,000 years ago, the dam that held all the water broke, and formed the Hudson River. The Connecticut River also formed when another dam, the dam at Middletown Ct broke, and the river emptied very quickly, which formed the Connecticut River, an old river. About 2 million to 10,000 years ago, the area where JBT is, was covered by a giant sheet of ice. A glacier carved the valley that is seen at the top of the cliff. The valley was very big, miles across. When the glacier melted, a lake was formed, the Glacial Lake Albany. The lake drained, which left fertile land with the Hudson River running through it. Streams and rivers flow through the cliff after the glacier finally melted. The freeze in the winter, and flow again in the spring.
