Almost six feet long from head to tip of the tail, the howler monkey is longer than other types of monkeys. This monkey has a beard in addition to long thick hair which can be either black, brown, or red. Unfortunately, the red howler, which is most common, is often targeted by hunters for bushmeat. “Howlers also boast a prehensile tail. They can use this tail as an extra arm to grip, or even hang from the branches.” The extra “arm” is quite handy because, the howler monkey rarely descends to the ground, in addition they have no pads on their rumps! The monkey have wide side opening nostrils. Their weight on average is about 15-22 pounds, and their group name is troop.
