How Writing Has Affected My Writing

Improved Essays
Writing has always been something I loved to do. I can remember writing stories, poems, journal, and letters every day after school. Not because they were required, but simply because it was something I enjoyed. However, when I got in high school, writing became more of an obligation. I would have to write about stuff that didn't interest me in any type of way. So, I would only write when I had to. Eventually, though, I started back writing for fun. I continued to write stories just for my entertainment. Now, it’s become something I do daily. All the writing I've done has shaped me into the writer I am today.

In addition to writing, I also love to read. I read at least two books a month. I even enjoy reading books for school. My friends always call me a nerd because every chance I get, I read. The more I read, the better I write. I didn't understand it at first, but then I realized that reading affects my writing in two different ways. It either take over my thoughts so that I put a lot of what I've read into my writing, or it inspires me to

Like essays for school, for instance. Don’t get me wrong, not all of them are awful. However, there are some that don’t interest me as much. Narrative essays are my favorites because I get to tell a story. I love telling stories. Argumentative essays are okay, but they’re not the greatest. Rhetorical essays are the worst. Not that they are hard, but they just take so much time. I have to determine how the creator of the original work attempts to make his or her argument. Essays just make writing no fun for me. At the end of the day, though, writing is writing. When I played basketball in high school, I kind of hated going to practice. We ran a lot and did a bunch of tiring drills. Even though I didn't like it, practice just prepared me for games. So, I’m thankful for essays. Though I despise writing essays, they help me become a better

Literacy Narrative The earliest memory I have of reading is with my grandmother at her house. When I was a toddler, she would read to me every time I spent the night with her. My favorite book for her to read to me was Three Little Kittens by Paul Galdone. I 'm not too sure why this was my favorite book, but my grandmother says that I "insisted on having it read to me" every single time I was with her. She would also read the Bible to me, which was quite confusing and complicated for a child to comprehend, but she explained the stories to me in a child-like format.…

Through the following three essays, “Why I Write,” by George Orwell, “Why I Write,” by Joan Didion, and “A Way of Writing,” by William Stafford, a reader can interpret the importance of writing in daily lives. The three authors discuss the significance of writing and it has impacted their personal lives. I was most compelled by Joan Didion’s “Why I Write” because of its ability to encourage everyone to develop an interest in he topic.…

The way I’ve read in the past and how I read now, have changed. It’s changed a lot. When I was a wee lad I used to read a lot. I think I read so because my mom would make me read the same book with her, all the time. Love You Forever by Robert Munsch is the book and if I had my own copy, I think I’d read it on my own.…

Reading and writing have impacted my life in numerous ways; in fact, reading books has impacted my life by expanding my vocabulary. My mother would read difficult books to expose me to broad new words to me at a young age. She would also have me study dictionaries, and continuously give me spelling test. When I got a little older I would start to read books on my own. I would read books that opened up my imagination; such as the series, The Magic Tree House.…

All my life, I never truly appreciated reading, writing of what is was, for I’ve always hated reading and writing. I could never see as of why it’s so important to read or write by virtue of me believing either it’s boring or a huge waste of time. My parents and teachers would always encourage me, but I could never really get into it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been a good reader and writer; I just didn’t like to do it. For an example, back in second grade I was reading at a fifth grade level.…

My Road to Reading and Writing As Mark Twain said, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read”. Many people today don’t take up reading or writing as a hobby. A lot of people would not even read a book for entertainment or to expand their knowledge and the most they write is a post on social media. In my opinion, most people know how to read but chose not to because they are uninterested or unwilling which causes them no to be as proficient in writing.…

When I Learned to Read and Write. I first started reading and writing in preschool, my teacher was very helpful and did everything she could do to help me achieve goals, and become who I am today. When I was younger I would pretend that I could read and I would read to all of my toys. In preschool, my teacher saw me trying to read so she came over to me and started to help me sound out the words and form the sentences so that I could read. The first book I read was Dr.Seuss’ “Green, Eggs and Ham.”…

Not only have I learned how to carry out a conversation through discussions, I have also learned how to compose an essay. When I began this class I was sure I knew how to write a paper and make it sound like I knew what I was talking about. Upon completion of my first essay I discovered just how wrong I was. While there were a minimal amount of errors, the errors present made my essay sound as if it had been written by a child. After making the suggested corrections, I saw just how much my essay improved.…

For a long time, writing has encompassed my soul. From the young age of twelve writing what I called detective stories, and scary stories, and I would do this for hours. My parents would ask me "why do you write so much?' The only answer I could give them was that I had a mind full of ideas, and stories to be told. From that moment forth I knew fiction writing would become a part of my life.…

This intellect of creative freedom is where I found my passion, where I felt as if I was being useful. From the bright colors of a sunset, to the way someone’s eyes light up when they speak of something they love, I slowly began to really notice and find a new appreciation for these day to day occurrences. Writing gives me a sense of creativity. It is a more lyrical way to see my seemingly ordinary life and has changed my perspective on everything from going through the motions to seeing the beauty…

My History As A Writer Throughout my lifetime I have come to love and absolutely hate writing. The reasoning of the assignment or topic has a lot to do with my affinity and disgust. Although learning new things, like writing, was something that I loved doing in elementary school, that all changed when it was daily implemented. As an art form I recently come to love writing down my thoughts, ideas, opinions and stories.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…
