The first women in space was valentina tereshkova. She went in space 1963. She spent almost 3 days in space in orbit earth 48 times. That was her only trip in space. She later toured around the world to promote soviet science and became involved in soviet politics. Tereshkova was born on march 6, 1937,in Maslennikova, a village near the Volga river about 170 miles northeast of Moscow. Her father was a tractor driver and her mother work in a cotton mill..
