It is hard to tell an interesting and engaging story, especially over a platform such as Snapchat. Journalists are limited to the 15 second time limit for each snap. This forces the poster to condense information into the time limit, while still trying to get their point across to the viewer. Telling an effective story over Snapchat requires a couple key factors. Variety between interviews and background information helps keep the viewer watching and engaged. Stories that provided appropriate background information help the watcher understand the story. Snapchat has a card feature that was effective in communicating extra information beyond the story.

Snapchat has a feature called context cards, which allows viewers of a snapchat story to gain reverent background information about the story. A couple students integrated this feature into their stories. One of the most effective uses of context cards was in a story about ACL impressions around campus. Many different artists are performing at the concert. Gaining background information about the artists is essential in understanding the story. The student used Snapchat’s context cards to provide said info, and additional information about the concert itself. The Snapchat posts would also discuss the products each business was selling. Some of the behavioral insights associated with this action/nudge include the idea of stories and triggers. The social media campaign relates to the insight of stories because when students see the story behind the students selling their products, they are likely to share it because it is memorable and easier to recall than certain specifications for a product. The social media campaign also relates to the idea of triggers because people like to talk about things that are on the top of their mind. So when a student sees the Snapchat post, they are likely to share it because it is fresh in their mind and they want others to know about it.…

A portion of what makes Snapchat fascinating and highly snap-cessful is its use of modern technology that no other social media platforms have been able to obtain. Four years since Snapchat was originally launched, their app revolution began with their use of facial detection. For $150 million, Snap Inc. purchased the facial modification software from Looksery; a photography and software company. From cute puppy ears and nose to an embellishing flower crown, the variety of filters have become a part of the daily lives of Snapchat users including celebrities such as the Kardashian-Jenner clan. Reflecting on the college application process, I noticed that the college essays were stressed very highly, but all the prompts ask for the same thing. Whether they are asking for an eventful moment, your passion, a hobby, or a chosen outsourced prompt, many students seem to convey the same messages in their essays. To get around this, one must ask a more inconspicuous prompt where the student’s character shows through their unique ideas. A prompt that is universal, conveys a meaning, and is always answered uniquely must ask for a narrative: Write a creative story. Walking through the woods one night, Agatha Johansson could not wait to arrive at her friend’s house.…

It has come to my attention that social media is getting a lot of talk about it being “bad” for our society. People like Kerry Coppinger, the author of “Phone Fetish: How Snapchat Is Ruining Your Life and You’re To Blame”, claims that we, as millennials, use and abuse social media with a “don’t care” attitude. When it comes to the topic of social media, most of us will readily agree that it’s a distraction. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of what about the pros of social media.…

Informational Interview For this assignment, I chose to conduct an informational interview with Claudia Romo, a Career Technical Education (CTE) Counselor at Rio Hondo College. The reason I chose to interview a CTE counselor was to learn more about the CTE Counseling and how different the student-counselor interactions are to general academic counselors. The informational interview provided me with a different lens in viewing community college as I discovered the different counseling objectives CTE counselors have to general counselors. These counseling objectives range from longer counseling sessions, direct employer interactions, job site field trips, and career related workshops.…

Snapchat was created on the idea of sending and sharing pictures which then turned into the addition of videos and now five years later, not only can users send and share photos or videos of up to ten seconds, but Snapchat has released many other features.
