The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, ensuring that there is no prohibition on the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble, or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. Adopted on December 15, 1791, it has served the United States of America for over one hundred years. Freedom of expression is a controversial topic when applied to the school dress code. IN efforts to defend their case, school boards take the approach that the are not a totalitarian teaching style. Children are given a choice between punishment when the violate the dress code. While i do not agree with it I know there must be basic ones put in place such as wearing shoes, no matter what type, and wearing clothes. It is not the job of the school board to raise a child and teach them morals. That Is the job of the parent, and if the parent allowed their child to leave the house dressed like that they should be able to attend accordingly. The only time I believe the school board to intervene with how a student is dressing is when a parent asks for help. Without the school dress code, rape culture would decrease because it would make female students more empowered, and would teach the young man that rape is not okay no matter the circumstances of her dress or actions. This would also increase individuality, causing more confident citizens in our society. This would also help the making of friends. Many display what they like through their clothing, making them be able to form a bond quicker because they can see they have the same
