We didn’t have much money but my mom did what she could to get us by. So when it came to my senior year of high school, I thought to myself, “Am I going to go to college?” and if so, how was I going to pay for it. It was 5 months before I graduated and one day I got a call from my recruiter. Then I thought, “this is how I can go to college.” 9 months later I was on a plane to boot camp. So the military has two options to help you pay for college. There is the Montgomery GI bill and the Post 9/11 GI bill. Let me give you some information on the two. With the Montgomery GI bill, you must serve two consecutive years to qualify for it. It will pay you $1,648 a month for 48 months of school and you have 10 years to start using it. The post 9/11 GI bill, the one I picked, you must serve for 90 consecutive days to qualify. They will pay 100% of whatever the highest in-state tuition is for 36 months. They will also pay for your living expenses while you go to school. The pay for that is based on the zip code you live in. The living expense is the main reason I choose that bill. But if you are kicked out of the military and receive a dishonorable discharge, you will not receive any benefit regardless of how long you were
