How To Perform Cpr

Decent Essays
I learn best through engaging hands-on activities. For example, I’ve learned how to perform CPR on a dummy, dissect a baby pig, and partake in an EMT simulation. Performing CPR on a dummy has taught me how deep I need to push down when performing CPR and how fast I need to go. Dissecting a baby pig has presented a better visual for me to locate various organs/systems and the EMT simulation taught me to think on my feet and work quickly in a team environment.

The strongest person in the world might be able to tackle any physical obstacle, but mental stress can be much more difficult. The nuance with mental stress is that different environments affect people in different ways, and in different magnitudes. Cathy Davidson’s “Project Classroom Makeover”, Susan Faludi’s “The Naked Citadel”, and Malcolm Gladwell’s “The Power of Context”, all describe scenarios with environments that are either stressful and negative, or relaxed and positive. An individual’s identity is minimally impacted in positive environments and drastically affected in negative environments.…

Reflecting on my results from the VARK and MBTI inventories, I am not particularly surprised by what I see. The VARK inventory came back with a result of multimodal: 11 in visual, 13 in aural, 13 in read/write, and 14 in kinesthetic; whereas the MBTI inventory resulted in being an INTP: introvert, intuitive, perceiving, and right in the middle of thinking and feeling. I have no problems being a visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic learner, or all at once, if available. Although I prefer to learn hands on and by teaching others what I already know, I can adapt to any learning or teaching style. While this does pose it’s advantages, I have always found it hard to apply myself with learning things that I am not wholeheartedly interested…

Multiple studies have shown that all students lose at least some percentage of the knowledge they have gained in school over the summer break, and some students lose a more significant amount than others. However, there are ways to prevent the loss of learning, and as I am entering the final years of my high school education it is vital that I retain important information that I will need in my future. In order to keep myself from losing information, I can do many things over the summer that are both enjoyable and effective in allowing me to continue and enhance my learning experiences. Some things I plan to do over my summer that may help my learning include reading, taking weeklong camps, and travelling to new areas. I usually read periodically throughout the summer, and plan to continue to do so.…

And when I could not find what I was looking for online, I could always find it in books. My parents had one rule: if I was going to read it, I could buy it. As a result, I taught myself to knit, crochet, buy and sell stocks, play the guitar, solve the rubix cube, play chess, and a variety of other random and obscure skills. On a more serious note, I was able to apply the same skills to learning trigonometry, constitutional law, and international politics.
