Military swords look great on the wall of your home, cabin or office, but they'll look their best when they're well taken care of in order to preserve their beauty as well as their value. Always use caution when cleaning and caring for swords, and make sure that you don’t use them in ways for which they aren’t designed.

The following points are a guideline to keeping your sword in pristine condition.

1. Blades & other Metal Components

Make sure that you keep all contaminants and salts away from the metal of your military swords as they might ruin the color of the blade.

Ceremonial Use and Safety:
Do not use ceremonial swords for re-enactment fighting. The Ceremonial swords are forged and designed for providing durability and flexibility but they lack the toughness to withstand the heavy impact of a blade-to-blade contact. On-Going Care and Maintenance:

Inspect the leather fittings regularly along with the metal parts of your military sword.
Read the sword and saber manual carefully before using it.
Periodically clean and wipe your sword and the scabbards with a lightly oiled cloth.
While storing your military sword in a cloth bag, its better to first wrap them up in a plastic bag as there are possibilities that the cloth may absorb some humidity from the atmosphere, thus rusting the metal components.
Store your sword and the leather scabbards away from the direct sunlight or heat.
In case you are storing your military sword for prolonged periods of time, unsheathed them from the scabbard and store them separately.
Children tend to have a natural fascination with swords and often mishandle them. Supervise children closely and know that the misuse of a sword is dangerous.
