How To Make A Captain's Ethos Speech

Decent Essays
I really wanted to find something real funny but since it is now late I had to settle. I choose a movie speech “Crimson Tide 1995”. Being that I once was in the Army and I have listen to many speeches from some of our Generals and heroes of the past I thought why not let’s pick this Navy movie be a little different. I thought it was kind of funny how he first addresses the sailors as little ducks. If you think about it the Captain in the movie could be like a mommy duck. Why do I say this well, let’s look at this a momma duck keeps her ducklings in order and always looking out for them. So the Captain is the head duck in charge but also looks after the safety of his crew (little ducks). That first line made me laugh so this is why I choose this speech. …show more content…
In this speech from the movie you find out that these men are getting sent to Russia with what they claim has the most Firepower ever known. Now I haven’t watch this movie so what can this Sub beholding on it. Could it be holding A Nuke or just a lot of missiles. At that point of the speech you learn that whatever is happening between the country the Sailors have a big responsibility to protect the USA and each other. At the same time, he asks his men and also tells them that he needs their best but, as you can imagine these men have to know what is at stack if they fail. Speaking of giving the Captain their best he also said in this speech “Anything less you should have Joined the Air Force” which I love. In all Branch there is one common joke the Air Force ha-ha but at the end of the day we all respect each other. All branches have always made jokes about the others so when I heard this I could not help but laugh knowingly this is so true about

The Captains of Industry, to some, are considered amongst the first men to “build” the America we live in today. In my opinion, that is exactly what they are. Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Carnegie, and J.P. Morgan were innovators, but above all they were businessmen. Although most people see them as “robber barons”, the things they did was to some point for their personal wealth as well as for the good of this country. What most people don’t see is that what they did played an enormous role in developing America.…

One of America’s most popular war correspondent in history was Ernie Pyle, an American journalist, who told stories of residents living in rural America. Later on, during World War II, Pyle shared insights into lives of the brave ordinary men fighting in the European and Pacific theatres. He would report from all branches of the military, from foot-soldiers to pilots. At the time, his convincing and vivid descriptions of war were talked about across the country. Pyle described the hardships and struggles each soldier would face everyday on the battlefield.…

If I become an officer in the Navy I will continue to hold this view as I believe that an officer should always push himself and lead by example. An officer must know when to lead, when to follow, and when to stand aside. I learned this during a volunteer service trip rebuilding tornado stricken homes in Alabama. I realized that a leader only becomes a good leader when he, too, is following.…

Jack was preparing to be interviewed by a defense magazine on his recently stated views on the navy, and to respond to Frederick Williams statements about military programs that he supports such as the F-35 and the DDG-1000. As he sat down ready for his interview, the interviewer began to ask him questions "Senator, not too long ago you were bashing the littoral combat ship program. Would you mind elaborating on your statements? Jack replied "Well I don't think there's much to elaborate on. I pretty much covered it when I stated the ships are good in theory, but have become very bad in practice as they are expensive, unreliable, and cannot fulfill their duty and survive.…

Even if someone didn’t know much about the social history of the Navy, they could probably still expect it to mirror, or even just closely align with, the social history of the nation it served. It’s certainly true of Hispanics in the Navy, and immigrants in general, but someone might not know how much opportunity the Navy afforded those who served, too. Indeed, it’s a remarkable fact, according to Naval historian Dennis Nelson, that little was made of race in the early years of the U.S. Navy. But it makes sense.…

KOLODGY October 10, 2016 Having been involved in both Iraq and Afghanistan wars the one consistent thing that I have noticed was a high distribution of awards to officers and senior enlisted whom did not deserve them. At first when reading the citations of extreme heroism, working above and beyond duties, and rank. One would come to the conclusion that not only the person receiving the award deserves it, but the writer also has first-hand knowledge eye witness testimony of the accomplishments that were listed.…

On June 6th, 1944, towards the end of a horrific war, Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in order to stop the advance of the German army. This operation was known as D-Day and it was the biggest turning point of World War II. Even 40 years after this battle, Ronald Reagan gave a speech commemorating the men who helped liberate Europe. He spoke to the American people about how not only did these soldiers fight for our nations, but also for freedom. Ronald Reagan, in his speech “On the 40th Anniversary of D-Day”, shows the close link between past heroic events of Americans and the need to unite our country in the present by using logical and emotional presentations to his audience which makes this one of the greatest speeches in American history.…

When I first started creating my essay, I didn't really focused on creating my ethos within the paper. I think with, Chicago, being such a broad topic and then also with me trying to ask myself a question, I was having a hard time trying to bring out an ethos within this essay. I do believe that when working on my multimodal essay I was able to finally create my own ethos. I was writing about how my decision of leaving my small northwest suburb is one of the hardest choices I ever made, but still one of the best. I think with my first essay I was so confused and lost on where to actually take my paper itself that I feel like it was just there.…
