How To Live Life In A Raisin In The Sun

Decent Essays
People in this decade take advantage of the privileges that they have in life. We get used to certain things enough to where we think they are rights. A right to sleep in a bed instead of on a couch. A right to open your hand and be given money when you need it instead of trying to work for it. A right to live life like a child. In A Raisin In The Sun, Travis Younger didn’t get the type of things that we take for granted today. However, like mine, Travis’ family tried their best to make his future very bright. This play showed me how privileged I am just to be able to go to a house, with my own room, in my own bed. Travis had no room. No bed. He had nothing at all. For the most part, he is a kind, innocent, and good-hearted child, like me, who has not yet been corrupted by the big, bad world. I couldn’t imagine sleeping on a dingy couch and be outside of my beautiful, blue bedroom. Having to use a public bathroom down the hallway instead of one to myself. As a child, Travis might not know how much he is deprived of things in his point of view but as a third-person reader that has the advantage of a better life, I believe he is lacking many rights in life. He just sees things from the point of view of his eyes. Also, much like my family, Travis’ parents and grandmother tried the best to get …show more content…
Travis is just a kid and like me, he knew no better. It took a lot of searching to find someone I connected with in the past books ive read this year. Then i realized Travis younger was the perfect match. Travis altered my view of life. From not being able to sleep in a nice cozy bed to being grateful that i have a family supporting me. Although, he has many unapparent stuggles in life, we are similar in numerous ways. We both have friends. We like to have fun. We are just kids trying to be kids as long as we can. The character in Fences I most identify with is Cory Maxson, the son of the lead character in the book, Troy Maxson. He is my favorite character and the one I identify the most with because we are both young men who are driven and capable and who ultimately want to fend for themselves in the world and prove to our parents that we can make it and succeed in this life with or without any type of forced assistance or control from them. I do share some similarities with Cory Maxson but we also have some differences concerning certain aspects of our lives. Cory Maxson and I share some traits related to our relationships with our respective parents. Cory has a complicated relationship with his father, trying to prove that he can be a man, succeed…

The Other As children it is our parent’s main priority to decide what the best choices are for us. However, as we start to grow older we have somewhat more of a say so in what we decide to do. Both Wes Moore’s in The Other Wes Moore had rough childhoods, but the way they were raised and the way they chose their actions led to two very diverse lifestyles. Within the environment they were both living in, it could have been very easy for the author Wes Moore to have fallen a victim of drug gangs; Like many young boys at the time did, and how he writes it “sucking in some of our best friends” (51). It also goes both ways, the other Wes Moore, with just more motivation and effort could have led a successful if not, decent lifestyle, away from the…

Ayn Rand wants people to think that when a person loses their right to be an individual or have natural human things like family and love, life becomes meaningless to the ones taking part in it. The story portrays the suffering the citizens undergo by not being free and how they cannot understand their awful situation. Near the end of the novel it is shown that life gains meaning when people are allowed to be different and given choices to do the things they love. In Equality’s case he loves Liberty, The Golden One, and creating things for the use of others. This is proven when Equality says “But the only things which taught us joy were the power we created in our wires, and the Golden One.”…

Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun is able to bring to light various issues occurring in Chicago’s Southside during the 1960s,the time at which the play takes place. Many of theses issues stem from racial tensions, terrible education and poor housing systems among other things for blacks at the time. Money, however is the main focus in the play because it interrelates with many of the conflicts that occur between family members in A Raisin in the Sun. The Younger family’s perception of themselves and the world around them are impacted by money because they believe money gives them power in society and their homelife, allow them to pursue or refute the American Dream, and controls their ability to be happy.…
