How To Fail In High School

Improved Essays
When I first entered high school, I was excited to leave middle school. To completely have some freedom. Without having teachers supervise us walking in the hallways, lining up to walk to lunch, and having bathroom breaks. It was time to leave all that behind and start high school. I expected high school to be a breeze like middle school just more independent. My first year of high school was challenging for me, which has caused to fail my Algebra one class. I failed that class because I never practiced the work outside of class. Failing that class affected myself in many ways. I was affected in a ways like making myself be better in Algebra, moving to a new school, and becoming a tutor for younger cousins. I know that it is not likely to …show more content…
We also had plenty of family that lived here I moved with my three sisters and my Mother. My Father stayed to continue working his job. I have lived in Maine for fourteen years. It was the only place that felt like home. Nevertheless this benefitted me academically because going to a new school without the friends you've known since elementary is easier because it is less of a distraction. It is difficult to focus when I'm in class with my close friends. This failure I experienced my freshman years helped my cousins who are starting high school now. They have someone to help them understand it at home where I relied on myself to learn it at home. Their parents were going to send them to a tutor they were going to pay for, but I told them that I would help them as a substitute. They started understanding it better now which caused their grade to increase. They eventually passed the class with high grade. Altogether what I learned from this experience is you would not learn anything if you are not practicing it outside of class. Also failing something does not mean you will forever be horrible at it. You just have to be arduous and not give up because if had given up I would not have gotten this far. Over the long haul you will understand it and be good at it if you try harder the next time. Failing that class has affected me in a beneficial

“Black Hair” by Gary Soto has a specific line that reminds me of what an average day in high school for me was like, “The days were dull. I did what there was to do from morning until the bell sounded”. I usually felt this way because, like Soto in his autobiographical story he felt alienated from everyone around him. I am about to tell you my story of a time in my life where I felt shunned by everyone.…

For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

Have you noticed that many freshmen college students have a hard time adjusting to college classes? Do you know the reason for it? Well, it is because most high school teachers only teach their students enough in order to graduate. One way teachers can grab the attention of students, is by "revealing the trump card of failure (Sherry pg.713).…
