As a result of prohibiting drug use the, United States spends 19 billion even according to an ACLU article. All that money should be used for something that improves public resources, like improved education. By decriminalizing all small amounts of drugs then the United States would save money on paying law enforcement. It costs more than 31,000 to keep one person in prison every year says The Criminal Report. By cutting out small drug possession crimes, we would not need to spend so much money on prisons.
With the legalization of all drugs except pills, and strong hallucinogens since those are used by professionals and highly addictive to a humans body. It is important to note that almost anything can be abused, legal or not. For example, people huff ordinary items found in homes such as paint, compressed air dusters, and other inhalants that are abused. Instead of making everything harmful illegal or banned when legal things can be abused. We must set limits, and help those with addictions.
