How The Challenger Explosion Changed NASA

On January 28, 1986, the Challenger Explosion stunned the world which changed NASA forever. All seven astronauts aboard the Challenger died. The Challenger Explosion occurred 73 seconds after blasting off. It was the first time a space vehicle of the United States exploded with crew on board. NASA suspended its 1986 launch schedule until they figured out why Challenger exploded. On the Challenger, there was an area of concern in which there was an amount of ice before takeoff on the launch pad. Overnight, temperatures went to a low of 24 degrees and the wind chill reached a low of 10 at the height of the launch tower which was 250 feet.
