The Federalist Party The Federalist party controlled the United States government for the majority of the 1790’s to the early 1800’s. During this time, the Federalist party became one of the most beneficial pieces of the United States. During the era, the Federalist made many drastic changes to the U.S like maintaining a strong relationship with Britain, abolishing national debt, and establishing a strong central government which was ruled by the knowledgeable. Before the birth of the U.S Great Britain ruled the colonies. Back then, the United States’s relationship was not well with Britain. The Federalists believed that a government with established power, would run smoothly compared to an unorganized government. According to Document 3, Alexander Hamilton said, “The common people are generally dumb/ignorant because they allow emotions to get in the way of decisions, and let others dictate.” This quote means that the wealthy and knowledgeable make quicker, smarter, and better decisions. According to Document 2, the Democratic- Republicans say that the “Democratic Republicans balanced power and wealth equally”, but the Federalists were more agile thinkers and would establish power to whom it is was worth. The Federalists believed in a loose interpretation of the Constitution. They believed that a loose reading of the Constitution would allow the Federalists to make the necessary changes to the United States. Although this is true, the plans of the Federalists were often stopped by Congress. Also, according to Document 3, “The government should be able to rule itself before it can rule a nation.” By doing this, the Federalists achieved a strong central
