How Softball Changed My Life

As soon as my dad could put a glove on my hand the learning process began and after my first practice I fell in love with the game. From that point on all I did was softball, it was my safe place, my other home and the one thing I knew I could do something great in. I would always want to just throw with my dad or my brother, as little as I was I wanted to show them that I could catch the hard balls they threw. Of course though, I couldn’t but I was in the process of getting there. This game isn’t just a big part of my life, since I was nine years old it has been my life. I started travel softball when I was nine, I played all year long since then up until now, I am seventeen. Eight years of softball, I’ve had a couple injuries, frustrating …show more content…
My parents have spent so much money for me to just play a sport but I’m so thankful for it. My coaches have spent their own personal time to help make me better and get to where I am today. All the hard work I’ve put into this sport has paid off. My goal when I got into high school was to make varsity my freshman year. That sort of happened, I made varsity but I was a pinch runner. I wasn’t completely okay with that but it was still a learning experience and when I had my chance I shined, just like I’ve been taught to do my whole life. Watching the girls before me put that much heart and work into the game gave me something to strive for, I told myself I was going to be just like them, humble about the game and the “fame” that came with it. Sophomore year I was the starting third baseman on the most loving, caring, put together team I could’ve been on. It is such a blessing to be a part of a team that makes it to the fourth round in playoffs every year, sadly we haven’t made it to state but every time we lose in playoffs it just gives us more of an urge to work harder and beat that team in the fourth round to get to state. The community around me made me a better person all around. The love and support I get is

“Although many people assume that softball was derived from baseball, the sport’s first game actually came about because of a football game” (History 1). Softball was invented on Thanksgiving day in 1887 in Chicago, Illinois by a group of Yale and Harvard alumni. They were all just sitting around waiting for the outcome of the Yale vs. Harvard football game, when one of the alumni threw a boxer's glove at a harvard supporter. The supporter swung at the glove and everyone was interested by the act of the stick hitting the glove. George Hancock, a reporter for the Chicago Board of Trade, yelled out, “Play Ball”, and the first softball game began.…

I’ve been playing baseball ever since I could pick up a bat. Since then, I’ve been to countless practices and played in hundreds of games. Baseball is essentially a second life, and if you were to step into my room, for example, you’d see a childhood baseball bat leaning against my nightstand, several baseballs on my dresser and scattered on the floor, and a picture of Wrigley Field displayed on my wall. I spent most of my summer travelling across the Southeast playing in tournaments in Atlanta, Charleston, and Raleigh, where I was able to experience playing against very talented players in front of several college coaches. These tournaments have given me some of the greatest experiences of my life, and really reflect just why and how much I love baseball.…

All throughout one’s life, you must encounter obstacles, face adversity head on, and keep your head high all the while. Thankfully, as a child, I wasn’t always alone in completing tasks or accomplishing things. My friends, family, and people around me in life were quite often to help me, but there were times that I had to accomplish things on my own. As I grew up, I began to hate asking people for help, and I wanted to try things for myself. I felt like it was cheating to ask for help, because in life after high school, aren’t you usually having to do things by yourself?…

Baseball Baseball has always been one of my favorite sports, and it will always be the longest sport I’ve played. A total of 9 years in Khoury league and 2 years in high school, so all in all I have been playing this sport almost all my life. I started baseball with the Red Bud T-ball team, the team had a count of 15 people including me and excluding the coaches. Those 15 kids playing on that team became some of my bestest friends and greatest teammates to have. Most of them ended up being with me until we couldn't play khoury league anymore, and then only about 3 or 5 of them played school ball with me.…

If there was one thing I was used to by now, it was that whenever something didn’t go well for me on the baseball field, the future holds green pastures only if I go looking for it. So sure enough, after that loss, I set my eyes ahead to the next season. That final season we had a great start, winning a lot of games, but we ended up barely making the playoff as somewhat of an underdog. We didn’t think about anything that was at stake, we simply played our game all the way to the championship game without a loss in the playoffs. We won the first game of he series and were winning for the majority of the second game.…
