How Negatively Affect Children's Educational Performance

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) defines Autism as a developmental disability that affects verbal and nonverbal communication as well as social interaction. This disability is generally evident before the age of three, which can negatively affect the child’s educational performance. Children with autism tend to engage in a repetitive and stereotyped movements, which can lead them to be resistant to change in daily routines or environmental change.

The Diagnostic and statistical Manual of mental disorders (DSM-5) definition of autism is very similar to IDEA definition. The DSM-5 indicates that there are levels of severity in the areas of social communication and restricted, repetitive behaviors. There are three levels
