How Montag Changes In Fahrenheit 451

Fahrenheit 451 is a story set in the near future when books were banned and if you were seen with one, no matter the type of genre, your home was burnt to ashes. During this novel, Guy Montag, the main character, changes in numerous ways such as, through his feelings, thoughts, and the environment around him. His name however means, sensible, or “living spirit” which describes him ideally. I feel like throughout this novel Montag’s life changed primarily through his job as a fireman, his happiness, and his understanding of books. First, Montag’s environment changed through his occupation as a fireman. At the beginning of the novel, he was the genuine fireman that he was supposed to be. In this period of time, firemen were asked to start fires instead of putting them out. They worked to burn down houses when they found out that there were books located somewhere inside the home. One time Montag went to burn down Mrs. Blake’s home, and in her home she stored many of books, and as he told her that he was burning down her home, she refused to leave, but without anyone knowing he stole some of her books before burning them.
