In the beginning, brooches were used as a device to pin up robes, coats or cloaks. Due to their functional use, they usually came in simple shapes. However they soon started to be used as a body adornment on clothes. As a matter of fact, they stated to become more decorative by using gold and silver and in the following centuries brooches took several shapes, designs and inspirations from nature like birds, flowers, animals etc. Hat Brooches started to set it’s trend from the 15th century.

He started living in Versailles and transformed it into a massive palace. Everything was a ceremony in his reign, and in order to attend these ceremonies, you have to be codified, i.e dressed with code. His strict codes encouraged people to be willing to dress fashionably. He shaped people the way he wanted in terms of fashion and jewellery. It was important to show the neck in his time which means more room for grand necklaces. With all these activities, France became the center of fashion and everyone around him were beautifully dressed and adorned.
By the 1750s, there were numerous changes in the fashion industry. This change indeed had an impact in the jewelry market at that time. For instance, gold jewelry was used with darker cloths while the new pastel colors became backgrounds for gems and pearls.
