Coming from a multicultural community, the essence of being non-tendentious and empathetic towards everything minoritized in society are a significant importance to my parents. I was born biracial, with my mother being Argentinean and father being white. The value of vigorous work, loyalty to family, and education are prioritized by my parents and myself. These values have influenced my life in an effective and affirmative way that I can contribute to Towson. My mother often recites "hard work beats talent when talent does not work".…
During my junior year I experienced failure. I had taken 3 AP classes and I was in cheer at my high school, and trying to figure out a balance between the two was difficult for me because it seemed like cheer took up a lot of my time and in the past other two years it had, but I had managed to still do well in my honors and AP classes. My junior year was another story, I struggled a lot at the beginning of the school year, and most of first semester was spent with me having an F sometimes more than one, and that was a failure to me because I had my heart set on going to a four college or university and I knew that if i had an F i wouldnt qualify.…
Needless to say my grades improved from this. I also began to be more interactive in my school by joining several clubs like Garland High School Marching M.O.B (Mighty Owl Band) and became more active in my community by volunteering to help local schools and soup kitchens such as Life Message. I 'm only young and in high school once so I decided to dedicate some time to making memories helping my school and local community. While it has been extremely difficult and has required extreme time management, I wouldn 't want to live my life any other way right…
Imagine waking up to a dreary day. Clouds fill the sky, and you rumble through your routine for school. Walking through the front door, you see the sunlight thinking it’s a good sign that the day won’t be as gray as you thought it would be. But, you have a concussion, and this means that peak of sunlight, has given you an instant headache before your first brain-draining task of the day. Most people think of a concussion as a minor headache, However, it is a serious head injury experienced by many, and it alters the focus you most take for granted.…
In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…
I was so disappointed in myself because I went from a 3.76 to a 3.2. I knew I was smarter than that. I will tell anyone my junior year was a mess. I did not know if I was going to finish it strong. It was like a rollercoaster honestly.…
Supporting Narrative In April 2015, I applied for experiential learning credits towards my Bachelor of Science degree in the Office Administration and Technology program. As a result, I earned three credits for ACED 2940 Basic Admin Office Skills and four credits for ACED 3940 Intermediate Admin Office Skills. Once again, I will demonstrate how work experience, technical skills, and personal development have provided me with college-level learning. This year will mark my ninth year working full-time for a local government agency as an administrative assistant and recording-secretary.…
My life began to spiral downward before fifth grade began. I found myself an endless loop over summer vacation of waking up, experiencing the day as a blur, sleep, then repeat. This drove me to discover a new way to spend my day. On the television I noticed a recurring advertisement for a game called ‘World of Warcraft’. At first I instilled the mindset that I could spend my time pragmatically but eventually I succumbed to boredom.…
Change… What does this word mean to you? When I think of change the words different, and new come to mind. Isn’t that what change is? Something new, and different? Over the past two years, my life, and personality have changed.…
“The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.” (Moliere) Senior year is supposed to be a year full of fun and excitement. My senior year was not a typical senior year like most have, my senior year I found out that I was pregnant. Something that I thought would never happen to me happened. The senior year I had envisioned for myself was suddenly turned upside down.…
I was more lively and positive moving forward. My junior year has definitely shown me that I can do anything if I put my mind to…
Three years elapsed, and with those years gone, so were my hardships. The start of my fourth year marked the turning point for me and what made my final year in high school a memorable one. Unlike the years prior where my opinion didn’t matter, my senior year was when I was finally recognized and praised for my abilities. I felt like I was an asset to the team rather than someone who was just taking up space. I was given first priority when the time had come to pick numbers.…
School life has changed me in many ways. Whether it be the expectations of school or what actions happen in school everyday. A lot of us teenagers tend to get very distracted, and we always want to be accepted. Sometimes we try to hard to be liked and that can lead to bad pathways. The bad habits that take place in school have changed me and also the good things.…
My last year of high school was very difficult for me. During that year, I lost a lot of important people in my family and I fell into a slump. I had depression and had to miss many of my classes in order to help out my mother and father. I realized that I was very close to failing my classes and I realized I needed to get back on track.…
A single year may not seem like a long time, or that much can change in that short amount of time, but students can change drastically in just a year. I have seen a lot of growth in myself throughout the year, and am pleased with how I have grown. At the beginning of the year, I was quite shy and did not like speaking in front of groups. This impacted my presentation skills as I was unable to speak clearly and with good emotion. Additionally, I have seen myself become better at working with groups for projects.…
