People are capable of being loyal to other individuals and animals. If one person gets in trouble, the other person will help him get out of trouble no matter what happens. A person will not leave the other person behind and they will always walk together. Steinbeck is trying to say that loyalty exists between people and animals and make them look after each other through the novel Of Mice and Men.
For example, in Of Mice and Men, Lennie is loyal to George. When they were little, George told Lennie to jump in a river, Lennie cannot swim, but he still jumps in because George told him so. He almost drowns until George saves him. He thanks George for saving him and forgot that George is the one who told him to jump in the first place. When Lennie and George talk about how they are different from other guys, Lennie said “An’ why? … because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that’s why” (Steinbeck 14). In Chapter four, Crooks suggests that George might be hurt, Lennie gets angry. He looks at Crooks with a threatening look and says that no one will hurt George.
