Improved Essays
Racism has always existed and unfortunately probably always will. People in the world still 'till this day, do evil things to keep this going. Not excusing the people for those of unjustified doings or poor choices. I truly wish that I could find a way to stop racial profiling, since I was a little girl. Wanting to figure out a way to just prevent all that is happening within in justice suffering to those who never and don't deserve it. However, that antidote seems to only come in one form now a days, that so many people today just reject , decline and say is dead: Equality. What I've realized and took along with me over the years, is that God does and will not make a person accept or love him, either. In my opinion, doing so is the only true way to fix the heart, by loving and honoring Gods guidance. …show more content…

Does racism still exist today? Yes, of course it does it happens everywhere, people discriminate other people based on their color and their background. Segregation happened a long time ago back in the 1800s, this is where people would have to be separated based on their color and they would have to go to different schools, drink from different water fountains and much more. In America racism there were two cases that led to each other the first one was Plessy vs. Ferguson, and then Brown v Board of Education both of these were also based on the phrase “ separate but equal.” Plessy v Ferguson and Brown v Board of Education are two landmark cases that changed the course of American history.…

A few weeks ago, I wrote an essay that tied into the SLE of being a Committed Catholic where I highlighted the violence in racism and why we shouldn’t be racist to one another. I wrote it for the Maryknoll Essay contest, which called students, “to take a clear stand for creative and active nonviolence and against all forms of violence.” The SLE bullet points that I thought most tied into this essay were understanding and being able to explain Catholic beliefs and being able to live as Jesus taught us. When re-reading this essay, I noticed that these bullet points carried some relevance with the points that I was trying to get across, further advancing and proving my argument as true, making it obvious how my thesis tied into this SLE.…

Still today the black community is discriminated against so much that it is almost impossible for someone to say that prejudice, racism, and discrimination has disappeared. An article about the shooting of African American boy, Michael Brown, gives great examples as to how this issue continues to lives on. “According to one poll, 45 percent of African Americans believe that they have been discriminated against by the police because of their race, compared to only 7 percent of whites…Even 31 percent of whites, the poll found, believed that police are more likely to use deadly force against blacks” (Don’t Shoot). Since both races notice this, that should be an eye opener to try and change something, but people have grown so used to how society has been for years, that no one seems to want to put forth any sort of effort to “make change”.…

One of the greatest foundations of racial issues in my opinion is Racial Profiling. Racial profiling is the act of suspecting or targeting a person of a certain race based on a stereotype about their race. In main words, it’s just basically stereotyping. Racial profiling seems to be big in law enforcement. A good example of racial profiling by the police is when A Hispanic driver is stopped in a "white" neighborhood because he "doesn’t belong there" or "looks to be out of place and/or a group of black teenagers are pulled over because of the kind of car they are driving.…

Its effects create inequality and oppression. “Systemic racism includes the complex array of anti-black practices, the unjustly gained political- economic power of whites, the continuing economic and other resource inequalities along racial lines, and the white racist ideologies and attitudes created to maintain and rationalize white privilege and power.” (Cole, 2015) Because of its presence in society, it reflects onto how individuals act towards each other in everyday life.…

Racism has existed since the early 1600s when African Americans were first brought to America against their will to work as slaves. It wasn’t until the Civil Rights Movement, beginning in 1955, that the lives of African Americans started to transform and the U.S. Supreme Court began to terminate “Jim Crow” laws and ban segregation (“Civil Rights Movement,” n.d.). The main goal of eradicating segregation was to reach what is known as “racial equality”, which is the balance between all the races making everyone equal. Since the Civil Right Movement, our country has continued to make steps of improvement including, swearing in our nation’s first black president and the fact that black people and white people are now able to go to the same school.…
