The monster is abandoned by Frankenstein right after his accomplishment. There is no one around him to teach him, and give him the skills of surviving, living, speaking, reading, and everything. After the monster killed William, he puts the miniature which Elizabeth gave William into Justine’s pocket “Thanks to the lessons of Felix and the sanguinary laws of man, I had learned now to work mischief”(145). It’s irony how Mary Shelley uses the word “thanks” to illustrate the happiness of the monster, punishing human and let Justine be the scapegoat. He’s proud of this. “Sanguinary” and “mischief” illustrate the monster’s misunderstanding on human. “The whole village was roused:some fled, some attack me, until, grievously bruised by stones and many other kinds of missile weapons”(103). Even the creature’s beloved protectors attack him “ He dashed me to the ground and struck me violently with a stick”(136). Violence is the only way the creature learns from humans so how he can resist is countering violence with violence. The monster wants Frankenstein to experience the pain and hate he has suffered for so long so he murders William, Henry, and Elizabeth. “ If I cannot inspire love, I will cause fear”(148).
The creature has no communication with human and doesn't get to know them deeply so he blames human for his tragic life and see them as enemy.
“ Listen to me Frankenstein, You accuse me of murder, and yet you would, with satisfied conscience, destroy your own creature. Oh, praise the eternal justice of man! Yet I ask you not to spare me; listen to me, and then, if you can, and if you will, destroy work of your hand.”(97)
The monster uses words “ accuse” and “destroy” to express his anger and correct Frankenstein that is not all his fault, Frankenstein also has the responsibility of the murder because Frankenstein abandons him
