Lily changes as she experiences the real world from a girl that does not believe in herself into a strong person that can live independently. Lily decides she has enough of her abusive father. She observes the bees escape from her jar and she learns from them. She needs to escape from the bad environment and move to a place that she needs as a teenage girl. Lily decides to move to Tiburon and drag Rosaleen with her. She decides to move to a better environment for herself and her decision causes her to change.
Lily now has a sturdy mentality and believes in her abilities to write and her own beauty. Compared to herself at the start of the novel, she is not self-doubting anymore. Her big decision to get away from the bad setting she lived in, changed her life and herself for the better. She learns how to keep bees from the Boatwright sisters and goes to high school in Tiburon now. Throughout Lily’s journey of finding her self-assurance and a good environment for her to live in, she experiences a good change in
