Othello, Sheakpeare
Othello is the tragedy of jealousy, jealousy is the biggest monster of human being, the explosive that destroys Desdemona and Othello. The tragedy begins with the ingenuity of Othello and Iago’s cruelty with his only purpose of revenge. Iago hates Othello and envy deeply the love that Desdemona feels for him; throughout the play frame a complex plan to deceive Othello. Iago’s imagination is so malicious and the innocent soul of Othello that believes everything he says. Iago as the villain of the play is a twenty- eight years old military veteran from Venice. At one point, he says he is upset that Othello overcame a promotion; then he suspects that he is having something with his wife (Emilia). We usually think that evil people are brutal and insensitive , or at least disconnected from the people they hurt . Iago, however, is able to hurt Othello because he understands him so well. Iago manipulates him so good that actually we can think that he is inside Othello's head. Iago’s philosophy in this play is so clear. He does not believe in fate, he said that “we choose who we become” this means that we create our own fate. You could say that through their wickedness, he drives people to create the fate that he wants. Iago is called 《semi devil》 and his philosophy 《a theology of hell》. He is an atheist driven by interest whose purpose is to cause chaos. In the act 2 scene 3 (line 350) he denies having any supernatural help. He says to Roderigo “How poor are they that have not patience! What would did ever heal but by degrees? Thou know’st we work by wit and not by witchcraft, and wit depends on dilatory time.” He is practically saying that he achieves things with his intelligence, not by magic, and intelligent planning takes time.
