How Does Gene Variation Cause Obesity

Research done in 2007 show that a gene variation can be the cause of obesity in people. People with a SNP in the fat mass and obesity known as FTO are predisposed to being obesity through their lives. A person that has two copies of the FTO gene, one from each parent, have a higher risk in becoming obesity and/ or are heaver then an individual with just one FTO gene. In general people that are obesity have a higher chance of having or getting a chronic disease in their lifetime (Baumler 54).
