How Does Elodea Plant Affects Color

Decent Essays
From prior knowledge, we know that when you add CO2 (carbon dioxide) to bromothymol blue the water will turn green, when you add O2 (oxygen) the water will turn blue. The experiment we investigated is how does the amount of light the plant receives affect the color of the water. We took three test tubes with water and bromothymol blue, two of them had elodea plants in them one of them the control did not. One of the test tubes with the elodea plant in a dark cabinet where no sunlight could reach the plant, the other tube was near a window. The control was also near a window. We recorded the color of the water after 2 and a half days. After putting together our knowledge and researching we developed a hypothesis: If we put an elodea plant

The purpose of this lab is to examine cross sections from the leaves of C3 and C4 plants and to determine the morphological differences between them while relating those differences to their metabolism. In C3 plants the carbon dioxide is first incorporated into a 3-carbon compound. Their stomata are open during the day and photosynthesis takes place throughout the mesophyll cells. In comparison C4 plants, the CO2 is first incorporated into a 4-carbon compound. Their stomata are open during the day and photosynthesis takes place within the inner cells.…

In this study, the effects of both varying temperatures and light intensity upon the photosynthetic rate of spinach leaves were observed. Using the ‘spinach immersion’ technique, the rate of photosynthesis under various conditions was quantified by observing the amount of spinach floating on top of a sodium bicarbonate solution. The sodium bicarbonate solution simultaneously supplied the spinach with carbon dioxide for use in photosynthesis, and caused it to sink. When the leaf underwent photosynthesis and produced oxygen gas, the leaf floated to the surface. It was hypothesized that an increase of either temperature or light intensity would lead to an increased rate of photosynthesis, to a degree.…

The question of this experiment is, what effect does the darkness have on a plant that requires a lot of light like alyssums? It is hypothesized that the plant will wilt and try to conserve energy in the dark due to its bright natural habitat. The experiment has been designed that the effect of the lighting will be tested…

Introduction: Leaf Disk float in water alone. When a solution consisting of a small amount of sodium bicarbonate is added to the water it causes the leaf disk to sink. As photosynthesis continues in the leaf disk it releases oxygen and causes the leaf disk to rise. While cellular respiration is occurring also the rate that the disk raise is an in implicit measurement of the net rate of photosynthesis. The independent variable in this lab is the solution and the light because it can be controlled.…

The invasive species originated from South America and the first place it was transferred to was Australia (Room 1983). Eichhornia crassipes also originated from South America (Gopal and Kanta 1981). Lemna sp. is native to many places around the world (Azeez and Sabbar 2012).…

In doing so, the trials all received the same amount of light, the same temperature, and the same humidity. All of the plants were measured out to the same length and received the same type of water, tap water. Although, the results of the experiment could have still been affected by underlying variables. One of which includes the type of water used. Since elodea is a pond plant, it grows best in water that mimics its natural environment.…

After 9 minutes (“more time under light source”), there were more bubbles than at the beginning. However, it was not due to the closeness of the lamp but to the amount of time under it. Also, the plant was heated up towards the end and it gave results, even though the distance between the plant and lamp was greater. Some possible mistakes that could have occurred during this experiment can include the following: Miscalculating the distance between the Elodea plant and the light source.…

Monascus Pigment: A Versatile Fungal Pigment Introduction Pigments is defined as a organic compounds that give a characteristic color to plant or animal tissues and is involved in critical processes. Chlorophyll in plant (photosynthesis) and hemoglobin present in Red blood cells (oxygen transportation) are examples of pigment. Variety of color pigments produced by organisms is also known as biological pigment or bichromes. Pigments from plants and animals have been obtaining since long time ago, and used as natural colorants in many industries including food, pharmaceutical, medicine, and textile.…

This experiment is important in the real world in green houses. The goal is to have plants grow and they can do this by placing plants close to a light source to ultimately get the best rate of photosynthesis. Our hypothesis for this experiment is as the distance from the light source increased the rate of photosynthesis decreased. We predicted that the 0 inches from the light source would produce the highest photosynthesis rate.…

Investigating the light factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis in Elodea Fatima Hussien Sara House, Lesha Liles, Abigail Saucedo, Melrina Stemn Biology 1441_Sec 017, Monika Pradhan; October 6, 2015 All plants rely on photosynthesis, therefore, we examined the rate at which a submerged plant such as elodea photosynthesized, with different light factors. To do this, the elodea must be completely be submerged in deionized water, later place the two plants under artificial light and natural light. After an hour, elodea has to be removed from the beaker, add three drops of phenolphthalein and then add as many drops of sodium dioxide until the content has turned pink, into the beaker. The amount of sodium dioxide drops that are added to the content after the phenolphthalein will result in the amount of carbon dioxide.…

Usually plants grow in natural sunlight, but do they grow the same in colored light? People always just put their plants outside, then leave them. Is there an effect on plants in the colored light, or is it just the same. Part of the plant is the chlorophyll, which is the part of that is responsible for the pigment or color found in the organism. It is responsible for the green color of plants, except in the fall where the pigment changes to red, yellow, or orange.…

Determining the Rate of Photosynthesis and the Effect That pH Has on It Abstract - The purpose of this experiment was to determine what variables affect the rate of photosynthesis. The variable tested was the pH level of the “environment” and this was tested using leaf discs from a plant. By testing the leaf discs in different pH levels of two, four, six, eight, and ten, it was found that the rate of photosynthesis was at its highest in a pH of six. It was also found that the rate of photosynthesis was at its second highest at a pH of eight and at its third highest at a pH of ten.…
