How Do Gentiles Measure Up To God's Demand Of Ordinary Righteousness?

Improved Essays
The apostle Paul wrote the entire book of Romans for the sole purpose of expounding on the doctrine of salvation. At the core of his argument, the apostle sets out to persuade his audience that in our human condition we are incapable of saving ourselves. Hence, he makes this clear from Romans 1:18-3:20, thus explaining “why extraordinary righteousness is needed: neither Jews nor Gentiles measure up to God’s demand of ordinary righteousness.” Then, Paul introduces the gospel of Jesus Christ and the sufficiency of faith in the atoning work of Christ on the cross. Furthermore, Paul explains in Galatians and Ephesians that one cannot attain salvation by any works of their own, whether by fulfilling the Law of the Old Testament or by meriting any favor from God through good works.

Lehi’s two descendants comprised the two tribes; the Nephites who were religious and prosperous and the Lamanites, whom mormons consider the Native Americans. These two tribe were in constant war with each other, until Christ came, died and rose again. This period inaugurated a peace between the two tribes for about 200 years. Next, on 385 A.D a Nephite prophet named Mormon began to write down the accounts of his people’s history on a set of gold tablets. During a battle with the Lamanmites, Mormon was fatally wounded and his son Moroni took the golden tablets and became the sole survivor of the Niphites. 36 years later, Moroni added a few things to the tablet and sealed it in 421. This is what became known as the Book of

NT2200-Week Two-Perspectives on Paul Paper The “old perspective” or “traditional perspective” that Timothy G. Gombis presents in our textbook can be summed up as a human effort to make oneself righteous in the eyes of God through works of the law. According to Timothy G. Gombis (2010), “When Paul critiques “Law,” “works of the Law,” and “works,” he is opposing an implicit Jewish legalism; the assumption that one’s status before God is earned through merit gained through good deeds” (p. 83).…

One could argue that many, if not all, of Corinth's problems stemmed from a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of the resurrection. Discuss how the Corinthians misinterpreted Paul's teachings on the resurrection and how that misunderstanding led to the various problems in that community. One of the big issues was that the people of Corinth did not understand the resurrection. The people of Corinth believed that they were already living as the exalted and they were reaping the benefits because that they already lived better than other generations. The people of Corinth began to think they were above each other and began to fight with each other and divide themselves into groups depending on who taught them about Christianity.…

The most common belief of how the Book of Mormon came about into existence was said to come through Joseph Smith who claimed he was directed to discover buried ancient golden plates that were inscribed by prophets that he later translated into the book in which he said with the use of spectacles prepared for that specific purpose. The angel Moroni was one of them who showed him were to find the plates and according to him was one of the narratives of what was written on them. There were various witnesses who claimed this to be true and some who had even handled the plates and been visited by several angels.…

Due the constant jobs and moving the Smiths were not particularly involved in any religious organizations (Butler, Wacker, Balmer, 2011). Confused and out of answers Joseph prayed to God. On his15th birthday. Smith asked God’s help in picking a church that we would join. God told him that he did not fit in a church, so for the next several years Smith had a vision, until Moroni, an angel that only Joseph could see, told him about the “golden tablets hidden beneath a stone on a nearby hillside, which held the wisdom he was seeking” (Butler, Wacker, Balmer, 2011).…

Worldview Essay Romans Chapters 1-8 Introduction The book of Romans is a book written by the Apostle Paul to the believers in Rome. Paul wrote it to give them a solid theological foundation and to bring about faith in Jesus Christ and the obedience that comes from it. Even though many Jews and Gentiles in Rome identify and belief themselves to be Christian, they do not follow the required laws and are surrounded and submerged in sin. Paul believes it is necessary for him to go to Rome to “bring some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord.”…

God explains that good works have no effect on salvation. The author supports this statement by quoting Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourself... it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast,” (KJV). Instead of requiring good works to be saved, fundamentalists have to identify Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior to achieve salvation. This idea stems from Romans 10:9: “If your lips confess that Jesus is Lord and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved,” (Jerusalem Bible).…

Paul in the New Testament told the Philippian jailer what he had to do to be saved, he was referring to the jailer’s eternal destiny, his life after certain death (Acts 16:30-31). Jesus similarly equated being saved with entering the kingdom of God (Matthew 19:24-25) (KJV) (Svigel, Holsteen 2015). Salvation or being saved leads to the question of…

In Romans 10, Paul states that people receive salvation by faith in Jesus through trusting His death as the payment for humans’ sins, accepting Him as Lord, and through living faith. People receive salvation by trusting in what Jesus did for humans on the cross. Paul writes in his letter that if you “believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom. 10:9). According to the Bible, sin is real because man has sinned, and the result of sin is death, spiritual separation from God (Rom. 6:23). However, God loves the world and gave His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross as a substitute for a penalty of all human sinners (Christian Doctrine).…

One of the most important goals in a Christian’s life is eternal life. However, everybody all has original sin that separates them from God. In “Augsburg Confession of Faith”, a document of Lutheran, original sin is described as an original disease what brings “condemnation and also eternal death to those who are not reborn through baptism and the Holy Spirit” (Article II). Man was made perfect and flawless at the beginning, but Adam and Eva changed how mankind would be when they obeyed the serpent to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge in the garden (Genesis 2 NIV). Before that, there was no sin or death and human lived in peace with God, because of their decision people now have to deal with both.…

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is more commonly referred to as the Mormon Church. The basis of the church comes from the original church founded by Jesus Christ, however some adjustments were made by its original members, primarily Joseph Smith, its founder. Joseph Smith claims to have been receiving messages from God, Jesus Christ, and other Christian figures since the age of 14 years old. One markable adjustment from the original Christian faith iis how the church reveres Mary. While the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not pray to Mary, the mother of God, they do recognize her as Jesus’ mother.…

All scholars are in agreement that Galatians was written by Paul. Though some argue for a very early date, making it of the earliest letters he wrote. Some evidence for this is the lack of any reference to the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15), however, his reference to taking Titus to Jerusalem with him in Gal. 2:1 means he already returned from his first missionary journey (Acts 13-14), therefore the Council probably already took place. Galatians may date to the late fifties.…
