Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese explorer, is known as one of the most prominent explorers in the history of navigation. Da Gama was employed by the king of Portugal to find a trade route to India. The successes from his explorations and discoveries had a significantly positive impact on his home country. However they had quite the opposite on the countries which he came across on his journey. The explorer Vasco da Gama was born in Sines, Portugal in about the year 1460. Da Gama always had great interest in the sea and when he was of age he joined the Portuguese navy where he learned to navigate. The King of Portugal at the time, King John II, sent him on his first job in which he commanded the ship in 1492. This mission was to seize French vessels
