The Renaissance is the rebirth of many ideas and it’s a time period where changes were being made. The Renaissance took place in Europe and began around the year of 1400 and went on till about 1700. Many people were hugely impacted during this powerful life changing time. The Middle Ages was a time which was around 500 CE to about 1350 where the primary players were the Roman Catholic Church and the Pope. Everyone in the time of the Middle Ages looked to the Catholic Church and the Bible to explain the world, but things were about to change big time. Four ways man’s view of man was changed in the Renaissance were: art, literature, astronomy and anatomy.

In the Middle Ages, German astronomer Johann Regiomontanus made what is called the “Zodiac Man” which was the belief that each zodiac sign governed a certain part of the body. Some examples would be: the constellation of stars called Aries the Ram controlled the head; Sagittarius the Archer controlled the thighs and Capricorn controlled the knees. During the Renaissance, Belgian physician Andreas Vesalius took a big leap and took anatomy to a whole new level. Vesalius thought that the theory of the zodiacs was just very unrealistic, so that being Andreas Vesalius took it upon himself to dissect a human corpses to better explain the human body to his medical students, Vesalius doing this gave everyone a better understanding on what the human body was really made up of and how it worked.
