The Industrial Revolution has come on us very fast and has brought dramatic changes to all our lives. Although it may not seem fast to many of us, looking back through all of history we have had little technological advancements for thousands of years. Now within the past 100 years we have developed steam engines, cotton mills, railroads and so much more. These changes have brought many positive and many negative affects on our society and are even transforming our daily lives.

These inventions are bringing changes to everyone’s life. Some workers have been displaced by machines, but others found new job opportunities working with machinery. Many people are being forced to move into the industrialized cities and are finding working conditions harsh. Many inventions in manufacturing are changing the workplace for people. Previous to the Industrial Revolution manufacturing took place in the home of workers living in rural areas. Merchants brought raw materials to the homes and collected the finished products. Often times an entire family would work together to create clothing, food products, textiles and wood products.
