The word crusade comes from the Latin word crux, meaning cross. The Christian warriors called Crusaders wore the cross as a symbol. Seljuk Turks took control of the Holy places including Jerusalem, and closed it to Jewish and Christian pilgrims. Pope Urban II for help in gaining once again these lands.
