Before The United States became a free country, it was under the rule of Great Britain. The king of Great Britain was a tyrant, he mistreated the people in the colonies. He would raise taxes on the colonies to pay a war debt that Britain was in. He would charge people for random crimes in an unfair trial. The people had enough of the king’s tyrant ways and sent the king the Declaration of Independence. In the Declaration of Independence, the colonists explained how they have their god given right and the right to overthrow the government if the government is abusing their power, and that's what they did. They sent a letter declaring their freedom from Great Britain. The Constitution was written so that the government would never abuse their power. The king was a cruel ruler who would take peoples rights, power, and property away. In the Declaration of Independence, it stated, “The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct objects the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states.” The king would always do as he pleases, even if it affected the people.
