Napoleon Bonaparte was a very important man back in the 1800’s. He was one of the world's best military strategists. What is extraordinary is that Napoleon crowned himself emperor. Napoleon was the first Frenchman to have the title of an emperor for more than 1000 years! He was Corsican-born. On May 18,1804, Napoleon declared himself emperor, and made Josephine (his wife) empress. Napoleon was 35 years old when he crowned himself emperor. He was going to crown himself emperor in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris; he wanted Pope Pius Ⅶ to hand him the crown. Pope Pius was from Rome. Napoleon wanted Pope Pius there to make it feel more “religious”. Pope Pius only came to make friends with Napoleon so Napoleon would be nicer to Rome. He did
