Julius Robert Oppenheimer was born April 22, 1904 in New York City. Born into a German Jewish immigrant family, Oppenheimer went to Harvard University later traveling to England where he studied at the University of Cambridge. While at Cambridge he began atomic research and after a single year continued his research with Max Born at Gottingen University in Germany. At Gottingen he would receive his doctorate as well as meet Niels Bohr. Eventually he would establish with the help of Born the Born-Oppenheimer Method in the quantum molecular theory. On July 16, 1945 the project delivered a result and was tested at the Trinity Site in New Mexico. The explosion was the first nuclear explosion in human history and resulted in an explosion generating 84 TJ of power. The resulting explosion even created a new mineral that was named Trinitite, theorized to have formed by glass that rose up into the initial fireball and instantaneously melted and rained down liquid.
