Was Andrew Jackson the best President the United States has ever had? The answer is what you believe and who you ask. Jackson was the seventh President of the United States. He was voted in for two terms. Even though Jackson did all the things that he said he was going to do – which rarely happens – he wasn’t the all humble and kind person every thought he was. Jackson was part of the Nullification Crisis, The Bank War and the Trail of Tears. Andrew Jackson made decisions that mostly had negative effects. Jackson made some decisions that were negative. First of all, he wanted to get rid of the Native Americans. He did not want them anywhere near his people. In document 4 Jackson says, “It seems now to be an established fact that they cannot live in contact with a civilized community and prosper.” Jackson is saying that these “uncivilized people” cannot live with the “civilized people” of America. But, he was giving more power to the richer people because they were getting more money. With more money, they could get more land and the poor people wouldn’t have land to build houses or farm on. Jackson also paid off the federal debt. Which Presidents don’t normally have a chance to do that. This made American citizens pay less taxes then what they had to before2.
