Transitions- ‘House on Mango street’ My first essay I had no transitions at all, now I have a transition for each paragraph I write. I have learned that it’s a matter of thinking ahead and figuring out what you want to say when you transition into another paragraph.
Quoting other books and texts- As I read ‘The house on Mango street’ essay’ I wanted to laugh at how bad my TLQC was. I had no transitions or lead ins, it was sloppy. For example out of my first paragraph I said , ‘“She says she is in love, but I think she did it to escape” (101). No transition or lead in I just have the quote and the citation. Unfortunately when I wrote ‘House on Mango street’ I didn’t do a very good job on explaining on anything. In my second paragraph of my first essay after a TQLC I wrote “She learns you can can only be stuck in the dark before so long, and have the same schedule every day, you aren 't going to be happy.She learns that not all people are destined to be happy, you make your own happiness.” I tried unsuccessfully to provide more information but didn’t happen. My last essay ‘F451’ I wrote skillfully “. In the first few chapters of the book Montag comes home from work to find his house chillingly quiet and cold when he walks in his room he finds his wife half dead from a pill overdose and when he calls the hospital they send down two ‘Men’ who say uncaringly “ We get these cases nine or ten a night. Got so many, starting a few years ago, we had these special machines built… Just got another call, ten blocks from here. Someone else just jumped off the cap of a pill box” (15-16). They got so many cases of suicide that they literally had to build a machine for it, that is so sad that so many people are killing themselves from being that …show more content…
Before english I had no idea what rhetorical devices were but I would doing them without knowing what I was doing. I not only think it was the most significant subject learning but it was the most helpful because now I could categorize what thoughts go where. Logos is logic, it proof and reason, it’s why your answer is correct. Ethos is trust it’s morals, what is right and what’s wrong and why it’s not okay to do something or it can be used as why someone or something should do something if it’s for the right reasons. Pathos is feelings, it’s emotions it’s making the audience believe you by using feelings and connecting with them on an emotional level. Rhetorical devices make writing easier for example Logos; It a logical strategy and for logical thinking information is required to be in the writing. Think about it all you need to do is have your information and know what the subject is about and you are done. Pathos comes very easy to me because I am an emotional person. Pouring out your soul into the paper is not needed but it sure would make the audience believe you. Everyone has emotions so it is the easiest rhetorical device to resort to when you have nothing else to write about. These rhetorical devices help expand your thinking process it allows you to really dig into what you are talking about. A Logos example is “Do you like being sad and unhappy? Does anyone? No! No one likes being sad
