Characters in the novels can sometimes seem flat and fake. Tomi-Kun is the main character of the book House of the Red Fish. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor his dad was out in the sea, fishing and was immediately in a war camp. By only his mom and sister he had found out a way to help. Tomi was a loyal,kind,brave,outgoing, and smart.

How Tomi is brave is because in the situation were Tomi and billy got into a fight and Keet said that he could get Tomis mom fired. According to page 45 it says “ Your going to be sorry you stepped into this, old man …. I'm going to get you fired”. This is brave because Tomis mom works for Keet and Tomi stuck up for himself. Another reason why Tomi is brave is because on page 38 it talks about how he could get in trouble for getting his dad’s boat back. It says ‘they wouldn’t arrest me for trying to save our own boat’’. This means that Tomi could get arrested for bringing back his boat because Hawaii shot it down, he could get in trouble but he still wanted to bring it back. …show more content…
I know this because on page 187-188 it says “ Who are they?....Come inside.” This means that the family showed up in the morning and they invited them inside to help find the woman's husband. Tomi is outgoing because on page 63 Tomi is asking Mrs.David if his grandpa is able to come home. It says” can we really take him home”. This is outgoing because a lot of American people don't like the Japanese people in Hawaii because they think that they help with the attack, but they were actually helping each other to get their family
