In a cell there are many organelles to help keep the cell functioning. In the cell you could have a cell wall, cell membrane, ribosomes, cytoplasm, flagella, cilia, nucleus, nuclear membrane, nucleolus, chloroplast, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, mitochondria, plastid, rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, vacuole, and a vesicle. Everyday items can represent many of the organelles. One example of this is by looking at a house.
In a house you have a fence. The fence in your house would represent a cell membrane in the house. The cell membrane is the outer covering made lipid bilayer. The main function for it is to be a barrier between the cell and its environment. In a house the main function for a fence is keep people away or keep things in like the cell membrane. It serves the purpose for protection like a cell membrane also.

It is present in only the eukaryote. It is present in both the animal and plant cell. The mitochondrion looks like a rod or its in the shape of a rod. It converts sugar into ATP (which is just a fancy word for energy), which the cell then uses for energy. The mitochondrion is like money. The economy needs it, which it is then used to make the country stronger and wealthier. The mitochondrion can also be like a big brother. I can relate to this as my big brother may protect me. Most children would view their older sibling as the most powerful human in the world. They sometimes produce money, which is given to you to use on stuff. They are the true powerhouses of your household.
Plastids are next on the list. They are exclusive to eukaryote and plant type cells. They are a double-membrane bound organelle. Their main function is for food storage but may vary depending on the amount of pigment in the cell that it has to offer. This is like my stomach. My stomach stores my food after I eat it. It also depends on the amount that I ate, which is like plastids as they depend on
