The Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) program is an initiative by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that rewards acute-care hospitals with incentive payments for the quality of care they give to people with Medicare (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, 2015). CMS rewards acute care hospitals based on the quality of care they provide, on how closely best clinical practices are followed, and on how well they enhance the patients’ experience of care. The hospital VBP program adjusts the hospitals’ payments based on their performance in four domains: the clinical care domain that comprises process and outcomes subdomain, the patient experience of care domain, the safety domain and the efficiency and cost reduction domain …show more content…
Each hospital‘s total performance is assessed by CMS by comparing its achievement and improvement scores. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (2015), also discussed that the achievement score is based on how a hospital’s current performance compares with the performance of all other hospitals and the improvement score is based on how much a hospital improve its own performance compared to its prior performance during the baseline period.
Community Hospital of San Bernardino (CHSB), a member of Dignity Health has a quality management process in place to control and measure the quality of care they provide to their patients.
