In the case of the Kennedy University Hospital shooting that happened in Stratford, New Jersey on August 27, 2014, chief nurse executive for the Kennedy Health System, Helene Burns “praised the staff for their quick response” (McNeil, 2014). The staff rallied together and checked on every patient on the second floor unit where the crime occurred. They had a plan and put it into action when the shooting occurred. In another case, the nursing home shooting that happened in North Carolina on March 30, 2009, the shooter was an estranged husband of an employee at the home (Ferran, 2009). In this case, the shooter showed qualities of being capable of committing a shooting since he wanted to go after his wife. The nursing home initiated their plan and in the small town, the only police officer came to the rescue and put a stop to the massacre. It is very important for the medical staff at their workplaces to be aware of the people who come in and out of their workplaces and to have a plan that they can initiate quickly in the event of a shooting should it ever
