After watching the following video above, what I learned is Hospice isn’t always the best for patients. The video mentioned numerous times that it seems people aren’t really getting the chance to die where they would like and how they would like, which is a problem because the elderly or those terminally ill are not getting to die the way they want to, and end up not having their wishes granted in their final moments. In the video, it was highlighted that when people like the elderly and terminally ill arrive at the hospital people are not surprised when the outcome of the patient coming in is death, because the trained professional such as nurses and doctors sort of just know what is coming. Which is awful because again, those that come in and especially those who know they are dying want to die at home, in fact 80% of those patients declined wanting to be hospitalized. Which was odd at first because before then many Americans would die in their home, and now it is rare for people to die in the comfort of their own home. Another thing that was noted in the video was that when people come in and they are dying or find out they are terminally ill and dying, hospitals are quick to want to find a way to fix it. For example, a patient mentioned in the video found out he was dying, and even though he wanted his final moments to be at home, his wife, and the hospital pushed for new treatments and drugs to try to prevent him from dying, or dying a painful death. He ultimately ended up dying, but instead of spending his final moments at home, he mainly spent them in hospitals, his body paid the price and his wife reflects and wishes they had used what little time he had left to let nature take its course, while being in the comfort of their own home with friends and
