Caring for the Forgotten Horseracing is a billion dollar industry that is fueled off of bets and the desire to win. A racehorse creates profit for their owners and entertainment for the public. Not all racehorses will be well known in their career but the majority are forgotten after retirement. The life of a retired racehorse can be painfully sad. A retired racehorse ends up being used for breeding purposes, slaughtered, or auctioned off. As humans we need to ensure security of a safe life for these horses. A racehorse can have a highly successful, average, or short career. Depending on a horse's career, stamina, and bloodline they may be breed for a potentially successful filly or colt. Not only is this an inhumane way for an animal to be killed but it could be prevented by the choice of the owners. Slaughtering should never be an acceptable alternative when the owner sees no purpose for the retired racehorse. Horse auctions have an array of outcomes. A retired racehorse could be auctioned off for breeding, slaughter, or rehoming. When a horse is auctioned it is unknown what awaits them. The conditions at the majority of the auctions are dirty, crowded, and the care is limited. The owners of the horses who end up at an auction do not care what happens to them as long as they are not a burden in their life. Auctions have no security in what the future holds for a horse.
