(A)People often associate having hopes and dreams with child's play; that only the young and naive would mess with something as foolish as that. (B)However, movies such as The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, the book Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, and the documentary following three Acholi children in Northern Uganda, War Dance prove that not only children should have hopes and dreams, but everyone. (C) There are many different reasons of why we need hopes and dreams and goals in our lives, and they are all very beneficial to us in life.(D) Hopes,dreams and goals provide people something to live for, which, when in the direst of situations, may be all that keeps them alive. Lennie and George always had a positive vision of their future together; acquiring a farm, tending rabbits, so they can escape the painful past Lennie had created through his mental disability. George on the other hand, had been losing hope about the aspiration he once had. After dragging Lennie to safety after ‘assaulting’ a woman, he began to lose all the faith that he had in the future he truly desired. He was able to gain some hope back after Candy had the money to make their dream become a reality. Shortly after this discovery, however, Lennie accidentally killed Curley’s wife and needed to be rescued again. Subsequently, George realized he had to shoot Lennie, which also shot down his dreams. In the article ‘How We Lose Hope And How To Get It Back’, Wilner writes “When we experience loss over time, we can start to feel hopeless. Loss can come from divorce, death, and change”(Wilner, 1). George and Lennie had lost their previous livelihoods, jobs, which had already caused George to lose hope in having their own farm. After Lennie’s death, he felt hopeless and lost his dream of having the farm that he and Lennie had once longed for. “Hope is a crucial part of dealing with life’s problems...Even a glimmer of hope that our situation will turn around can keep us going”(Wilner, 1). George needs hope to continue working towards his goal of living on his own farm, even if Lennie is not in the
