One of the best feelings in the world is giving back and educating the community. I’ve spent over 2,000 hours of community service helping schools and non-profits. Through this experience, I’ve become familiar with advocating for service projects and educating my peers on amazing opportunities. Through AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), I was a recruiter. As a recruiter, I had the opportunity to visit several high schools and colleges around the country advocating for the program, and all the good it does for the community. I encouraged copious peers to look into AmeriCorps and possibly join. Moreover, at my school, Hood College, I am a Blazer Ambassador. Since, I will be training to be an RA for Hood College in the summer, I will also have the opportunity to meet freshman at orientation. I have already been in contact with my Study Abroad Advisor, Dr. Kathleen Emory, about joining her team to promote and educate oncoming freshman and current students about studying abroad. In collaboration with the Study Abroad Office, I want to make it my mission to connect at least 15 freshman students with enough information to greatly consider studying abroad, especially during the summer. I will include my personal experience with studying abroad, and my experience with applying for study abroad scholarships. In addition, I will include all the scholarship information for the scholarships I have applied for, more specifically the Gilman Scholarship. I will also take advantage of the fact that Hood College requires students to take a foreign language for 2 semesters, therefore, studying abroad in the summer is a perfect way to meet those requirements while gaining eclectic experiences. Since I am going to continue to and have previously taken Spanish abroad, I will focus on that particular language. I have already been to Alicante, Spain; where, I learned many dialects and types of Spanish spoken abroad. I’ve already incorporated so much of what I learned, in Spain, in my daily life. Personally, I think Spanish is

I have chosen to work towards a degree in dental surgery because of my interest in the sciences, medicine, and in research. My interest for undergraduate research has increased significantly since attending Hendrix College and my experiences thus far has made me a very well rounded student allowing me to study what I love, participate in athletics, and many other service organizations that Hendrix offers. Initially, I intended on majoring in Health Sciences, but decided against that as I realized that I was completely enthralled with chemistry and noted our outstanding chemistry department. Second-mile service is the path that I walk and is a famous motto. Voluntary service is limited these days because many people are preoccupied with the distractions of the world like technology. This means that volunteer workers are hard to find. However, I do not fit in the technological era, but I am still in the service to help people era. I believe that serving people is very important because other people needs my service more than wasting my time playing video games or going to a party.…

I have always been fascinated by human behavior. I pondered the actions of my peers, questioned the foundation of social norms, and often found myself acting as the “mediator” during conflicts between friends and family. For these reasons, I decided to study forensic psychology at John Jay College and originally planned to pursue a PhD in Psychology. My initial goal was to become a clinical psychologist and work with members from marginalized communities. However, as I advanced in my academic career, I became more interested in the study of marginalized societies and cultures.…

Oak Hill is a small Appalachian village in southeastern Ohio. Although Oak Hill is a small, quiet community, it lacks diversity in its population. Ninety one percent of the nearly 1600 people, living in Oak Hill, are Caucasian and 100 percent live in a rural setting. Growing up, in the Oak Hill community, had a major impact on how I see equity, inclusion, and diversity. I began school, in the only available district, with about 100 classmates and my graduating class is about the same size.…
